The Seven Top Kinds of Baby Picture Frames

If you have a baby in your life, whether yours or someone else's, you know how many baby pictures are taken and deserved to be framed. But with so many types of baby picture frames, sometimes it can be overwhelming trying to find just the right frame.

How do I make a Silent Hill type picture in Photoshop?

Any tutorials out there / advice?
It can be anything, from a portrait, to an outdoors shot. Looking to make it have a Silent Hill effect.
More talking about environment, such as colors, darkness, textures, etc.

Well fortunately, I'm both a Silent Hill fan and a Photoshop user. And since I've also made several of my own Silent Hill wallpapers/art, maybe I can offer a little advice.

"Gryphon1911" is right - a nice, compelling photo or image is a great place to start. Beyond that, you're going to mainly want to consider brightness/shadows, colors, and textures for this kind of art. For specifics:

- Photoshop tutorials. If you're a beginner, there are plenty of Photoshop tutorials online (some also have video) to help you with pretty much anything you want to learn. If you do a quick Google search for "Photoshop tutorials," lots of them should pop up in your results. For starters, here's a tutorial site I like to visit:

Brightness/Shadows. These are pretty much common sense. Pay attention to where the light source is coming from to make sure all your shadows are basically going in the same direction. Nothing gives away a bad Photoshop job like shadows that don't match or make sense. Also, if you want something to be darker or lighter, you can go about it a few different ways (blending modes, adjusting the "Brightness/Contrast," using the Dodge/Burn Tool, etc.). Just use what looks best to you. If you're not sure of how to go about it, just try looking up some tutorials on the subject.

- Colors. The colors you want to use really depend on what kind of mood or feel you're going for. Fortunately, since you have some source material to draw from (the Silent Hill games and/or the movie), choosing the color scheme won't be so hard. Most often with Silent Hill art, I go for a dark or evil feel by choosing lots of dark reds, oranges (can vary from a rusty orange to a bright orange-gold depending), and occasionally some yellows. In this case, helps if you think of fiery colors (dark and light varieties of reds, oranges and yellows). If I'm going for a kind of "dingy" feel (kind of like the Silent Hill 2 game), I'll choose "muddy" colors like dark olive greens, browns, etc. For an "ethereal" or "foggy" feel, I choose pale blues, grays, etc. Have fun with it - it's entirely up to you.

- Textures. Usually, the textures used for this kind of art are grungy, gritty, scratchy, dirty and/or rough. Look around Google for some good, rough textures, (e.g., broken concrete, rusted metal, dried mud, etc.) or try and find some good grunge brushes to use.
