I have a roll of paper that has a 36"cicumfrance and a 4" hole in the center. How do I figure the length
You just need to know how thick the paper is. I have a sheet of copy paper that I just measured with a dial caliper. I got about 0.005" That means it would take a stack of 200 to make one inch. Your roll has a diameter of 36" and a hole in the middle of 4". That means from the hole to the outside, you have 16" of paper (36-4)/2. 16" of paper at 200 sheets per inch, means there would be 3200 layers of paper. The circumference of the first layer is 4*pi. The circumference of the last layer is 36*pi. Since the circumference increases linearly, we can average those two values to get the average circumference, then multiply that average by the number of layers. Doing that we get
(36*pi+4*pi)/2 = 20*pi
20*pi inches/layer *3200 layers = 201,061 in = 16,755 ft.
If you want an accurate measurement, you need to know the weight of the paper.
